A separate service for situations where the systems already exist but aren't connected: leads from the website are moved into the CRM by hand, store stock levels don't match the warehouse, and accounting duplicates data from one program into another.

Why you need it

Manual data transfer is the source of two constant problems: errors and delays. A lead noticed three hours later has often already gone to a competitor. A product sold twice because of unsynced stock damages the relationship with the customer.

Automation doesn't so much save staff time as remove a class of errors that discipline alone can't eliminate.

What to keep in mind

The key question in any integration is whether the system has a data-exchange interface. Modern services usually do. It can be harder with older programs: sometimes the exchange has to be built through intermediate files, and that's a separate piece of work.
